New Stories In Progress

It’s been far too long since I last posted, so I wanted to get everyone up to speed on all things Beta Sector:

I’m currently working on a new Beta Sector series of short stories, the first of which is tentatively tiled The Vanished. This new story is the first in what I hope will be a new series of adventures for the crew of the Cobalt Rose. The short stories will be roughly 30-40,000 words each, so they would be defined as novellas and not novels. The style will be more like pulp novels, so look forward to quick, hard action and lots of dialog to keep the adventures moving forward.

The stories will be published individually, but I’m thinking that every 3 stories would later be combined into anthologies. The Vanished will be out this summer (2019), and I’m hoping to continue putting out new novellas twice per year after that.

There is an updated map of Beta Sector that has been posted to Patreon. It’s 100% free to download even for non-patrons, though I’ve been posting a lot of information there lately, as well as the rough drafts of The Vanished up to this point. If you want to get a sneak-peak into a writes life and get all things Beta Sector before the general public, I highly suggest you consider joining the team.

The Kestrel Saga, Volume 6 is still progressing. I admit, I’ve not worked on this as much as I’ve wanted to the last year. I’ve found that writing a novel is extremely taxing on me both personally and physically, and all other life-happenings usually take a back seat when I’m hard at the craft. I’ve had a lot of life changes in the last 2 years, so it’s been easier for me to focus on short stories (like the Beta Sector Anthology and the upcoming Cobalt Rose series) than to delve into a 60,000+ word novel.

That being said, the last volume of the Kestrel Saga has been fully outlined for some time. I know what happens to every character you’ve come to know and love over the past 7 years, and I’m excited to get it out there for the public to see. No doubt I will posting some of this material to Patreon in the very near future as I work toward finishing the series, and I am working on it.

So, there’s all the news that fit to print! I’ve added a Beta Sector Instagram page (@Beta_Sector_Books) that you can follow and get more behind-the-scenes stories on what I’m currently working on. Thanks for all the support, and I’m looking forward to releasing new material over the next few months.

Kind regards,
Stephen Fender
